Installing Kit on your child’s device

Having kids access their Kit account on their iPad, tablet or phone is a great way to encourage independent money management.

Before you install the Kit app

  • Ensure that the device is registered to Australia.
  • Ensure that the device is supported. Kit supports devices running iOS 14.5+ and Android 9+.
  • Your child’s device will need to be password protected – this is a security requirement of Kit.

How to set it up

On your device:

  1. Open the Kit app.
  2. Go to your profile settings by tapping the menu icon.
  3. Select “Kid’s device login”.
  4. Select which child (or children) you want to log in on the new device.
  5. Click next — you’ll see a one-time code.
    • The login code expires after 5 minutes for security.

Share the code:

  • You can copy or share the one-time login code directly — it’s formatted as a text message ready to send.

On your child’s device:

  1. Make sure the Kit app is installed. If not, download the Kit app onto their device.
  2. Open the app and select Log in → Log in as kid.
  3. Enter the one-time login code.
  4. They’ll see only the profiles of the children you selected.

Good to know

  • Parental control: When your child is logged in, you can access parent-only functions using your Boss Code on their device.
  • Notifications: If you have notifications from Kit enabled, you’ll receive a push notification when a new device logs in to your child’s Kit account. You’ll also see a notification on the Boss over-view screen, and in the notifications section of the app.

What if the login code expires?

If your child doesn’t use the login code within 10 minutes, generate a new one from your Boss profile settings → Kid’s device login.

My child can’t log in — what should I check?

If your child can’t log in:

  • Make sure they’re entering the most recent, unexpired one-time login code. Generate a new code if required.
  • Check the Kit app is up to date on both devices.
  • Confirm they’re selecting Log in as kid (not as Boss).
  • If the issue continues, contact Kit Support (link to form)

 Can I remove a child’s access from a device?

To remove your child’s access, log the child out of Kit on the phone by:

  • Click top left menu button
  • Tap ‘Exit profile’
  • On the ‘Who’s There’ page, tap ‘Log out of Kit’ at the bottom.

If you receive a notification of a child profile login that you do not recognise, contact Kit Support

Can I choose which kids appear on a device?

Yes. When generating a code, you’ll be asked to select which profiles can use it.
Only the selected profiles will appear on the child’s device. Your boss profile will never appear on a child’s device.

If you need to change which children appear on the device, log out of Kit, then create a new child login code.

Is it safe for my child to log in independently?

Yes. Both the Boss and Kid profiles remain secure.

Each one-time login code:

  • Can only be generated by the parent (Boss).
  • Works for a single login and expires after 10 minutes.
  • Can’t be reused or shared.
  • Your kids' profiles are protected by their 4-digit PIN.

Once logged into the app, Kit kids cannot:

  • Transfer to or from your linked account without your boss code
  • Approve or edit a payday without your boss code
  • Update any card locks, blocks or limits without your boss code

This gives kids secure access to their Kit experience while keeping your account protected.
