Why is my child’s balance negative?

In general, Kit accounts do not permit accounts to go into a negative balance. However, there are some rare scenarios where they can become overdrawn, e.g. 

  • Public transport - certain state transport bodies require that some transactions be processed regardless of the account balance.
  • Direct debit payments, due to timing issues.
  • Technical processing issues due to an outage, or the way in which a merchant processes a transaction.  

There are no charges if the account becomes overdrawn. Please transfer funds into the Kit account to bring the balance back in order so that your child can continue using the card. If the account remains overdrawn for an extended period, you may risk the account being suspended.
