Does my child have to get a prepaid card to sign up to Kit?
If you do not feel comfortable with your child spending with Kit, you may hide the card numbers in the app and/or store the physical card until they are ready for it.
We know that some parents are keen to teach their children to save and use Kit’s gamified learning but aren’t keen on giving their children a prepaid card yet.
When you sign up for Kit, every child is posted a physical card and card numbers are available in-app. If you do not feel comfortable with your child spending with Kit, you may:
- Hide the card numbers in the app from them so that they cannot use it.
- From the Boss overview, click on the row with the image of the card to go to your child’s Spend screen.
- Tap the Manage button (cog image)
- Select ‘Hide card numbers from (child)’
- Store the physical card until they are ready for it. You can activate and use it later, when you feel that they are ready.
Even if your child is not actively using the physical or digital card, if your child is playing online games or has subscriptions, we do recommend using the Kit card as a payment method. This allows your child to pay for their own online gaming with their pocket money. It also minimises the risk of spending too much money, as spending is limited to what is on the Kit card.
